Joe: Rebuke

I was talking to one of my friends Dylan. I was just trying to self justify my actions in sharing the gospel all the time. I remembered he had a verse that said basically, we are to share the gospel always.

I wanted that verse to be God’s end all be all.

He told me he thought it was in 1 John.

It was not in 1 John. This is 1st John.

Love. Love Love. Show as much love as you can. You can only love because God loves you.

And then I read this:

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Love with actions and in truth.

If our hearts condemn us, we rest in his presence knowing he is greater than my heart and he knows everything.

God, I know I lack love. I know that if I confess to you, you are faithful and just, and will redeem me. Jesus, act as the propitiation of my sins, so that I will be able to understand your love, to come before God in peace and in rest.

Am I getting it all wrong?

I don’t think so.

Am I getting it all right?

No.

What am I missing?
